Its OK To Ask!

Aug 16, 2026  •  Pastor John Greer

What if the questions we have been afraid to ask are actually the very doorway to deeper faith and revelation? This message tackles something many of us have felt but rarely said out loud: that having doubts or questions about God, Scripture, or our own faith journey can feel like a sign of weakness. But when we look at the Bible honestly, we find that some of the most devoted people who ever lived brought their hardest questions straight to God. David cried out asking how long God would forget him. Jeremiah pleaded his case before the Lord even while acknowledging God's righteousness. Habakkuk looked at the world around him and said plainly that he did not understand what God was doing. These were not moments of faithlessness. They were moments of raw, honest relationship. The foundation of this message rests in James chapter one, verse five, where we are told that if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously and without reproach. That phrase, without reproach, is significant. It means God does not shame us for not knowing. He invites us to ask. The real challenge is not whether we have questions. It is whether we stop seeking answers. When we suppress our questions instead of bringing them to God and to His word, we often end up stuck in frustration, doubt, or even the kind of low-level murmuring that keeps us from growing. This message calls us to something better: a faith that is honest enough to ask and hungry enough to keep seeking until truth is found.
