What Are You Worth
This powerful message confronts us with a question that shapes how we live: What are we worth? Too often, we measure our value by unstable standards - our bank accounts, our performance, our status in society, or the approval of others. We try to prove ourselves through good deeds, fixing our past mistakes, or earning the acceptance of people who may never be satisfied. But all these scales are flawed because they constantly shift and change. The truth revealed through the story of the woman caught in adultery in John 8 shows us something revolutionary: our worth was decided before we did anything - before we were born, before we succeeded or failed. When religious leaders dragged this woman into the street, exposed and ashamed, they saw a problem to be eliminated. Jesus saw a person to be redeemed. He didn't deny her sin, but He didn't join the crowd in condemning her either. Instead, He challenged everyone present to examine their own hearts before casting stones. One by one, her accusers walked away, leaving only Jesus - the only one qualified to condemn her - who instead offered grace and a fresh start. This pre-cross moment pointed forward to Calvary, where Jesus would pay the ultimate price for all our failures. The value of something is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it, and God paid with His most precious possession: His Son. That's our answer. We're worth the cross. We're worth Jesus stepping into our place, taking our punishment, giving His life for ours.
