The Beatitudes Pt. 2

Jul 19, 2026  •  Pastor John Greer

This powerful teaching takes us deep into the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:5-6, challenging our understanding of what it means to be blessed in God's kingdom. We explore the concept of meekness—not as weakness, but as strength under divine control. Like a trained horse that possesses tremendous power yet submits to its rider's guidance, we're called to surrender our abilities, emotions, and reactions to the Holy Spirit's leading. The message confronts us with penetrating questions: Is our strength truly under control? Do we feel compelled to have the last word in every situation, or can we introduce our top lip to our bottom lip and trust God with our silence? Beyond meekness, we're invited to examine our spiritual hunger. Jesus speaks of those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, and we must honestly assess what we've been feeding. Have we filled ourselves with spiritual junk food—endless scrolling, consuming opinions, and feeding our flesh—leaving no appetite for God? The transformative truth here is that hunger can be trained and developed. Even when we don't feel like praying or reading Scripture, pressing in anyway awakens a deeper desire. Unlike our flesh which is never satisfied, when we hunger for righteousness, we find true satisfaction in Christ.
