The Beatitudes Pt. 5

Aug 9, 2026  •  Pastor John Greer

What does it truly mean to be blessed? The final installment of our journey through the Beatitudes challenges everything we thought we knew about that word. In Matthew 5:11-12, we encounter a striking shift in Jesus's language -- from speaking about others to speaking directly to us. He makes it personal, and what he says is both sobering and deeply encouraging. When we face opposition, rejection, or mistreatment because of our faithfulness to him, he does not say 'sorry about that.' He says we are blessed. Not because the pain is good, but because our standing in the kingdom is untouched by how people treat us. The resistance we face does not disqualify us -- sometimes it is the very sign that we are exactly where we are supposed to be. Like David facing a giant on the road to becoming king, the obstacles in front of us are often the doors to where God is taking us. This message calls us to examine our understanding of blessing and ask ourselves whether we are willing to trust the King even when the path looks nothing like what we expected.
